Mary Kom is a upcoming Hindi movie starring Priyanka Chopra. The expected release date of Mary Kom movie is Thursday 2nd of October 2014.With the filmmakers touting their major plans on making a biopic of late, one might have definitely heard about Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming production essaying a biopic on Mary Kom right? While earlier we had reported that Priyanka Chopra has been roped in to live Mary's life in the film, we later also witnessed the actress going on a research tour to learn more about Mary and her livings. Mary Kom is a project into which Priyanka has been pouring her blood, sweat and tears. It is now being revamped into a much larger sports bio-pic than before.
Says a source close to the project, "The producers Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Viacom 18 took a joint decision last month to postpone the release date so that Mary Kom could be further developed into another Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Viacom had unexpectedly massive global success with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. They are now looking Mary Kom as the female counterpart of Milka Singh's bio-pic. The global appeal of Mary Kom is much more contemporary than Milkha. While Milkha Singh's bio-pic was retrospective in structure, Mary Kom is being made even as the real-life Mary Kom prepares for the next Olympics."
According to a source close to the production team, the project is now being formatted into two different versions, one for the Indian and the other for the international market with the Indian version being longer.
Says a prominent source from the production team, "The version for the Indian market would have songs and more scenes showing Mary Kom's home life. These up-gradations in the original design of Mary Kom would take time. We're in no hurry to complete the film anymore."
Apparently, the decision to pull out of the October 2 slot was taken after seeing rushes of the film.

Says the source, "There is a lot more being added to the film now. Director Omang Kumar has asked Priyanka to spend a lot more time with the real Mary Kom. The second-half of the film is being made much more dramatic and powerful. And the fights in the ring would be to die for."
Finally, it’s a wrap on the shoot of Mary Kom, which Priyanka Chopra has dubbed as the toughest film of her career.
The shooting of Priyanka Chopra-starrer film "Mary Kom", a biopic on Olympic bronze medallist M.C. Mary Kom, has been wrapped. The actress has thanked the team for their endurance.
Expressing gratitude to the film's director Omung Kumar and producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, apart from other crew members, she tweeted: "It's a wrap on 'Mary Kom'! Thank you Omung, Sanjay sir, Sandy, Saiwyn, Keiko, Darshan and my whole crew who endlessly silently endured to create..."
"Mary Kom" is due to release on Gandhi Jayanti Oct 2.
